2020 Seventh Annual Missouri Falls Fine Arts Show & Sale Featured Artists

Steve Nelson, Great Falls, Montana,
Arts Association of Montana member
I do highly representative Montana landscapes, especially mountain scenes. Many include wildlife, teepees, horses, or other icons of the West. I work in a variety of colored mediums on flat surfaces including canvas, watercolor papers, Brazilian agate, and even relatively flat surfaces such as buffalo skulls or old wooden shingles. These mediums include watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel, all of which lend themselves to expressing the creativity of the soul. In my mind we are uniquely privileged to call this good part of creation our home and are given the mission of caring for it as the home of future generations.
I enjoy the very fine quality of art represented during Western Art Week and enjoy visiting with fellow artists and the willingness of the vast majority to share their thoughts about materials, techniques, and inspiration.
I’ve been painting and drawing for about 60 years. I’ve always loved art and have a natural gift for it. But I constantly work at improving as well.

“Making my home along the eastern front of the Rockies I am absorbed by the wonderful landscapes of Montana. I truly love the adventure of trying to capture this great land on canvas. The landscape, from the plains to the mountains, is a subject in constant change. Its many colors, textures and changes in light keep my eyes constantly composing painting even when I don’t have a brush in my hand. When building a painting I work on location until its almost done. I leave it for a few days then finish it back in the studio.
Sculpture is an interesting endeavor for me. After years of painting, the three dimensional form has sparked new energy. My subjects in my sculptures are inspired by motion and expression. Each piece takes on a life of its own from conception to completion. It develops from sketches, to the armature, to the clay creating the model to a final bronze sculpture.
My watercolor paintings have won awards at “Watermedia”, the Montana Watercolor Society national juried show, the Phippen Western Art Show in Prescott, AZ and the Wild West Art Show in St. Paul, OR. I have participated in the Western Heritage Show during Western Art Week for over 20 years. I have been juried into ths Shadows of the Past Auction, a fundraiser for the Teton Hospital since the beginning 10 years ago.
In April of 2003 my husband Laurence Vincent and opened Hausmann Studio, offering custom framing and a gallery for local artists in Fairfield. The studio is now located 7 miles west of Fairfield. Visitors are always welcome. Horses, dogs, cats and chickens share our little place on the prairie." www.hausmannstudio.com
